Languedoc's weather varies hugely from month to month, so having good information on Languedoc's weather and knowing what it will be like at a certain time of the year can be crucial if you're planning a visit here. The winters are quite long and very cold, and with tourists gone life can seem very slow and quiet (especially in those villages and towns with lots of holiday homes). Not much goes on. It is, however, very sunny and bright, and if you're looking to get away from northern Europe's low grey skies and wet air, then Languedoc is a good alternative. Just don't expect to be able to sunbathe.

Between March and May, everything comes to life, including Languedoc's villages and towns. Fetes start, and the farmers get busier. This is a great time to hunt for property, as it's not too hot.

Summer is hot, with heatwaves quite common. It's a good season if you just want to come to swim and relax - but the coastal areas get really swamped with tourists - causing huge traffic jams. The heat can also mean sleeping is difficult, with temperatures hovering around 30 degrees all night.During heatwaves, the sea and lakes get very warm - and far less refreshing. But summer is when Languedoc is most alive, with lots of concerts and fetes, including Beziers famous Feria.

Autumn is a riskier time to visit. Septemeber and October can bring rain storms that last for days on end. Not much fun. That said, with the vine turning orange, most days in Autumn are gloriously beautiful, with the weather far more comfortable and still warm enough to swim until mid October.
